Football again? No, Thank You.

Red-faced, spittle spewing men, often grossly overweight, screaming in my face aren’t motivational to me. They are, in fact, un-motivational. They make me wonder. And I remember telling one such coach during a drill, “Hey. How about a little perspective? It’s just footwork” after he spewed forth in my face about something. This led to more spewing and more spittle, this time much closer. I remember thinking “Poor man. I wonder if he’s unhappy.” Check out this episode!

I Said The Wrong Thing

Posted On May 11, 2022

Due to the nature of my business I’m often asked these types of questions. They often include some element of “what’s wrong with kids these days.” What I try to explain is that “these kids,” have come from us. We made them. Their values and behaviors and dependencies developed in our homes, at ball fields where you and I were the coaches, in the classrooms where people like you and me were their teachers. We made them. We’re responsible. Check out this episode!

She Made Her Kids Lives Harder

Posted On May 11, 2022

Yet If you and I were to sit down over a cup of coffee and I were to ask you to list the struggles that have shaped you, that have made you who you are today, you would have a list of things that you’ve gone through that influence your behavior and your thinking every day today. These events, and their associated memories, have turned you into who you are. Yet isn’t it strange that the hardships that we’re so proud of, that have shaped us, we work to create a lifestyle so that our children can avoid them. Check… Read More

Kooks at the End of the Road

Posted On May 11, 2022

And the longer the road, the kookier the folk at the end of it. They’re eccentrics. They’re a bit out there. And they do out there things. You may not spend a lot of time with them, but you like to know they’re out there.   Check out this episode!

DNA Tests

Posted On May 11, 2022

No one could have foreseen the rise and popularity and relative cheapness of DNA testing. Myrtice Allen Gave Me My Thirst for Travel. I Can Never Thank Her Enough.

Posted On May 11, 2022

As I write this, I’m in the air between San Diego and Atlanta on my way home to Mobile after presenting at a conference. The fact that I’m traveling today has a lot to do with my grandmother. She gave me wanderlust at a young age when she took me to Cozumel, Mexico and one day we flew in a rickety old plane into the Yucatan and landed on a grass runway to see the ruins of Chichen Itza. Conrad and Thomas

Posted On May 11, 2022

They offered to wash my daughter’s car which was parked in front of the house. Since it was a small car, they said, the cost would be $8. Both blond and suntanned. Barefoot. Ball caps too large for their heads. No problems talking to an adult. Lots of eye contact. Lots of “yes sirs.” One of them had a big plastic bin holding sponges, rags, and a bottle of dish soap. Reality TV Has Entered My Home

Posted On May 11, 2022

But I’m astonished that the seemingly normal people on reality TV put themselves on network television and then available on Amazon Prime for the rest of their lives and bare their emotions, their thoughts, and sometimes nearly everything else in front of God and man and all their friends and family and their kindergarten teacher. Middle-Aged Lame – My First Golf Tournament

Posted On May 11, 2022

I saw myself out there many times in many places. And I kept wondering if penguins were to come stare at us as we played golf, would they look at each other and say “they all look exactly the same to me. How can they tell each other apart?”Check out this episode!

Unhinged

Posted On May 11, 2022

Our house rules prohibit what we call “devices” in our kid’s bedrooms at night. Early this morning I reached for my iPad and it wasn’t there, so I pinged it and my heart sunk when I heard the pings coming from his room. Communicator Awards 2020 Award of Distinction Winner Check out this episode!
